Adidas AG intends to sell its Reebok division

German sports equipment manufacturer Adidas AG intends to sell its Reebok division, German economic weekly Manager Magazin reports.

The magazine says that Adidas has developed an internal team that handles this transaction and intends to complete the sale of the Reebok brand by March 2021.

Interested parties include VF Corp., which owns the Timberland and North Face brands, as well as the Chinese group Anta International Group Holdings.

Even if Adidas CEO Kasper Rorsted hoped to get about two billion euros from the sale of Reebok brand before the pandemic, he would now be satisfied with a smaller amount.

Adidas took over Reebok in 2006 for $ 3.8 billion.

  • Only four countries produced over 56% of Europe’s total lumber in 2019

Only four countries produced over 56% of Europe’s total lumber in 2019

European lumber exporters have expanded their sales overseas from 30% to 45% over the past ten years, with Asia receiving a fifth of total exports in 2020.

Historically, most of the shipments were to neighboring countries on the continent, and only about 20% were shipped overseas to the Middle East/Northern Africa (MENA), the US, and Japan.

In 2020, this share had grown to 45%, with shipments to China having expanded the most.

The four largest producers and exporters of softwood lumber in Europe are Sweden, Finland, Germany, and Austria.

Together they produced just over 56% of Europe’s total lumber production in 2019, and the international shipments by these “Top 4” accounted for about two-thirds of continent’s total export volume.

Over the past decade, this group has increased exports by about 20% to an estimated 36 million m3 in 2020, according to the Wood Resource Quarterly. Practically all of the expanded sales have been to overseas markets, predominantly China and the US, but also to several smaller markets in Asia, including India, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Australia.

In 2020, over 65% of Finland’s lumber exports have gone to markets outside Europe.

However, Finland remains the only country in the “Top 4” that has not yet expanded into the massive US lumber market. Sweden and Germany have shipped about 45% of their lumber exports overseas.

Austrian sawmills still predominantly sell to neighboring countries, with Italy, Germany, and Slovenia accounting almost 70% of their total export volumes during the first six months of this year.

Sharry to install advanced software into 23 skyscrapers in New York

Sharry, a Czech PropTech company, will be deploying its digital platform for modern office buildings in 23 high-rise buildings in New York.

SL Green Realty has selected the solution for its portfolio to contribute to the protection of the thousands of people working in these high-rise buildings while preparing for the post-Covid era.

Users can download a mobile application for the given building that gives them a mobile access card that will unlock the turnstiles in the lobby or the door to their office.

Another solution being implemented is an innovative guest management system for visitors.

”A guest will receive a meeting invitation with a QR code, thanks to which under certain conditions they can get from the street to the given company’s reception desk without the need to be in contact with the receptionist in the building’s lobby”, says Ondřej Langr, Sharry product manager.

For users, the mobile application offers a way to reserve any amenities as a shared terrace, gym, or electric scooter (if these features and services are available in the given building) directly from their mobile phone.

The community section of the application operates as a virtual bulletin board where users can “pin” messages or invitations to events they are organizing.

  • Stora Enso forest assets, between EUR 6.5 billion and EUR 7.0 billion

Stora Enso forest assets, between EUR 6.5 billion and EUR 7.0 billion

Stora Enso has decided to start using a valuation method for its forest assets in the Nordics based on market transaction data and change the accounting policy from the fourth quarter of 2020 onwards.

Preliminary estimations, based on transactions in those areas in which Stora Enso has forest land, indicate that the value of the group’s forest assets, including leased land, will be between EUR 6.5 billion and EUR 7.0 billion, compared with the end of Q3/2020 book value of EUR 5.4 billion.

The review of the fair value will be completed during the fourth quarter and will take into account also the latest transaction prices.

Forest assets are defined as standing growing trees and the related forest land.

From the fourth quarter of 2020 onwards, forests assets in Sweden will be valued by using a market approach method based on the forest market transactions in the areas where Stora Enso’s forests are located.

For the Finnish forest assets (through Stora Enso’s 41% ownership in Tornator), the market approach is not considered a reliable valuation method as the market data is not available with enough details, for example in terms of forest cubic meters of the traded estates.

As a result, there is no change in valuation method for biological assets.

For the plantation forests, there will not be any change in the valuation method as there is no reliable market transaction data available.
