    SPAR Denmark is active in many areas of environmental protection, including food waste, plastic reduction instore, and customer education on how to act more eco-conscious.

    SPAR Denmark also sponsors the national Ren Natur waste collection tours, and recently, one of these tours was attended by Lea Wermelin, Danish Minister for the Environment and Richo Boss, CEO of SPAR Denmark.

    Tips for eco-conscious consumers

    Through its easy meal plan, SPAR Denmark supports customers plan food purchases leading to less food waste.

    Published on SPAR Denmark’s website, the 5-week meal plans consist of healthy and varied recipes that can be prepared within 30-60 minutes as well as shopping lists with all ingredients.

    Customers can also select the meals and use the shopping list to have the local SPAR store to collect all the ingredients and pick up the order instore.

    To inspire customers to contribute to environmental protection when shopping for groceries, SPAR Denmark communicates climate tips for consumers.

    These tips contain valuable and practical advice on how to act more eco-friendly.

    Plastic reduction through recycled plastic bags

    SPAR Denmark focuses strongly on plastic reduction. Plastic bags available in SPAR stores since 2017 are made of 70-80% recycled plastic.

    The high-quality plastic bags can be reused several times. An alternative to plastic bags is the nylon net sold in many SPAR stores in Denmark which can be repeatedly used.

    Loomis launches ”Loomis Pay”, a complete payment solution

    Loomis Pay is a complete end-to-end payment platform for merchants and manages all types of payments, including cash, card and other digital alternatives, both in store and online.

    The ambition, in the first initial stage, is to achieve revenue, within 5 years, exceeding SEK 3 billion. Loomis Pay is expected to generate a positive operating result during 2023.

    During 2020-2022, investments will be made in product development and other activities for Loomis Pay.

    The company expects approximately SEK 100 million per year will be recorded as net costs in the income statement.

    Loomis Pay will first be offered to merchant customers in Denmark during the autumn of this year and to customers in the Swedish market at the beginning of 2021.

    Coop to use battery electric Scania truck in Denmark

    Denmark’s largest retail company Coop will deploy a battery electric Scania truck in its city distribution operations.

    The adoption of heavy vehicles that operate on renewable biofuels and hybrid electric solutions has positioned Denmark as one of the more progressive countries in sustainable transport. Now, fully electric battery powered vehicles are also entering.

    The Scania truck, with an estimated range of up to 140 km, is planned to go into Coop’s operations in the first quarter of 2021. The range can be extended with fast charging opportunities, for example while loading or unloading goods.

    “The green transition in the transport sector is going too slowly,” says Nicolaj Boysen, Logistics Director at Coop Danmark. “We have therefore chosen to take the lead ourselves to boost development and show that it is feasible.”

    Scania to launch its electric truck by the end of 2020

    Scania’s official launch of its battery electric trucks will take place later in 2020.
