    The first Modivo store has been opened in Galeria Młociny Warsaw

    Thus, the offer of e-commerce platform with premium fashion, belonging to eobuwie.pl, is now also available stationary.

    On two levels, over 2500 m2 of space and a dedicated mezzanine, 65 tablets are available for customers to place orders and view the offer. It will also be presented on 94 multimedia screens and mannequins in total.

    Modivo store is conceptually similar to what eobuwie.pl stores offer. The main focus is on customer shopping experience and premium service.

    Visitors will find many unique amenities in the fashion industry, including the ability to order items directly from the fitting room or digital product recommendations matching selected styles.

    Eobuwie.pl launched its own e-commerce with premium fashion in March 2019. Currently, Modivo is available not only in Poland, but also on 10 foreign markets.

    Until now, Modivo only functioned online.

  • CCC mobile app is available in Austria

    CCC mobile app is available in Austria

    CCC launched its mobile application on the Austrian market. It is available on Google Play and will soon be available in the App Store.

    Austria is the fourth foreign market, after the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, where CCC customers can use the mobile application.

    The CCC application makes it easier for customers to shop online thanks to the use of modern functionalities such as Visual Search – product search based on a photo (available on the iOS operating system, soon also on Android) or “Discover” (like / dislike) – searching by rating products available in the shop.

    The customer can also check the availability of products in stationery stores or find the nearest store. Users have access to the current promotional offer online and in stationery stores, while members of the CCC Club use the mobile version of their loyalty card.

    The group has a total of over 60 online platforms across Europe: through the eobuwie.pl, ccc.eu, MODIVO, DeeZee, and Gino Rossi domains.

    In 2019, CCC customers purchased over 52 million pairs of footwear in all sales channels.

    Coop to use battery electric Scania truck in Denmark

    Denmark’s largest retail company Coop will deploy a battery electric Scania truck in its city distribution operations.

    The adoption of heavy vehicles that operate on renewable biofuels and hybrid electric solutions has positioned Denmark as one of the more progressive countries in sustainable transport. Now, fully electric battery powered vehicles are also entering.

    The Scania truck, with an estimated range of up to 140 km, is planned to go into Coop’s operations in the first quarter of 2021. The range can be extended with fast charging opportunities, for example while loading or unloading goods.

    “The green transition in the transport sector is going too slowly,” says Nicolaj Boysen, Logistics Director at Coop Danmark. “We have therefore chosen to take the lead ourselves to boost development and show that it is feasible.”

    Scania to launch its electric truck by the end of 2020

    Scania’s official launch of its battery electric trucks will take place later in 2020.

    Carrefour Polska has begun testing Tank&Go gas station

    Carrefour Polska has begun testing Tank&Go – the new service targeted at Carrefour gas station customers.

    The service enables to make a full contactless payment for fuel and is available in the „My Carrefour” mobile application. At the initial testing stage, selected clients of Carrefour gas stations in Warsaw and Krakow can use it.

    Carrefour Polska owns over 40 gas stations.

    How Tank&Go service works

    The service works as part of the “My Carrefour” mobile application. Its users will find in the application a new module – Tank & Go – prepared especially for the needs of the service.

    To use it, the customer should log in to the module, provide the necessary data of his car and activate Masterpass mobile payments. When on a Carrefour petrol station, the client simply selects the distributor, specifies the transaction amount, makes the payment and starts refueling.

    After its completion, the customer will receive an invoice to the e-mail address provided earlier and can leave the service station. The whole process takes place quickly and fully self-service.

    Interspar Tata is ”Store of the Year” in Hungary

    SPAR Hungary’s Interspar Tata has been named ”Store of the Year” in the hypermarket category by Store Insider magazine. SPAR Hungary was also crowned ”Green Retailer of the Year”.

    Interspar Tata, SPAR’s 34th hypermarket in the country, was opened last year and is equipped with environmentally friendly technologies inside and out.

    The 5.200 sqm store opened after an investment of €13 million and provides jobs for 78 team members. It has a unique horizontal supporting structure with beams and ceiling panels made entirely from wood.

    The use of environmentally friendly materials is complemented with environmental friendly technologies.

    SPAR Hungary also installed ozone-friendly cooling systems and refrigerator doors and energy-efficient LED-lighting.

    Germany is the top exporter of chocolate and chocolate bars in Europe

    2.2 million tonnes of chocolate and chocolate bars were exported by the EU Member States in 2019, 66% of which went to other EU Member States, Eurostat shows.

    The top chocolate and chocolate bar exporters were Germany (640.000 tonnes or 30%), followed by Belgium (300.000 tonnes or 14%), the Netherlands (290.000 tonnes or 13%), Poland (230.000 tonnes or 10%) and Italy (180.000 tonnes or 8%).

    These five EU Member States exported three quarters of the total EU chocolate and chocolate bars.

    220 000 tonnes were imported by the EU Member states from non-EU countries, of which 100 000 tonnes came from the United Kingdom and 70 000 tonnes from Switzerland.

    Hungary: Prices increased by 2.9% in June 2020

    Consumer prices were 2.9% higher on average in June 2020 than a year earlier. Significant price increases were measured over the past year for food as well as alcoholic beverages and tobacco.

    In 12 months, compared to June 2019 food prices went up by 7.8%, within which the price of other meat preparations became 20.5%, that of seasonal food items (potatoes, fresh vegetables, and fresh domestic and tropical fruits together) 18.1%, pork prices 17.0%, the price of sugar 14.2% and salami, sausages and ham prices 10.8% higher.

    The price of alcoholic beverages and tobacco rose by 6.7% on average, within which tobacco prices by 11.1%. Motor fuel prices were cut by 11.6%.

    Compared to May 2020 consumer prices were up by 0.4% on average. Food prices decreased by 0.6%, within which seasonal food items (potatoes, fresh vegetables, and fresh domestic and tropical fruits together) became 3.2%, milk 1.7%, other meat preparations 1.4% and poultry meat 1.3% cheaper. 

    Consumer durables and services both became 0.3% more expensive. As an impact of rising oil prices, motor fuels cost 9.3% more for consumers.

    Carrefour’s loyalty card available in Apple Wallet

    Carrefour becomes the first retailer in Europe to combine its loyalty program with Apple Pay for use with Apple Wallet.

    Carrefour customers can add their customer loyalty card to their Apple Wallet and use it at store checkouts. This allows them to use their iPhone or Apple Watch as a contactless means to pay for their shopping and take advantage of all the benefits provided by their Carrefour loyalty program.

    They simply need to bring their iPhone or Apple Watch close to the payment terminal and the Carrefour customer loyalty card will automatically appear on the screen so they can collect points.

    There’s no need to scan a barcode, open an app or remember a secret code to use the Carrefour customer loyalty card.

    Customers can collect their points securely using Face ID, Touch ID or by entering their phone password.

    Italy: Retail trade index rose by 24.3% in May 2020

    In May 2020 value of Istat retail trade index rose by 24.3% in the month on month series, after plummeting at record levels in March and April, due to restrictions and temporary closure of stores during Covid-19 pandemic.

    Volume of sales grew by 25.2% when compared to the previous month.

    Despite the increase in the month on month series, the underlying pattern in the three months to May 2020 shows a decline, as both value and volume of sales fell by 20.6% and 21.8% respectively.

    When compared with May 2019, the value of sales dropped by 10.5% and the volume was down 11.9%

    Internet sales increased by 41.7% when compared with the same month a year earlier, the highest growth on record, suggesting a shift within the retail trade to online sales.

    Looking at the value of sales for non-food products, a fall was seen across most of the categories in the year on year series.

    This drop resulted in low levels for Clothing (-38.1%), Optical instruments and photographic equipment (-37.4%), Shoes, leather goods and travel items (-34.8%). Growths were registered for Computers and telecommunications equipment (+12.4%) and Tools (+5.6%).

    Sales of retail shops in Hungary decreased by 2.1%

    In May 2020 the volume of sales in retail shops decreased by 2.8% according to raw data and by 2.1% when adjusted for calendar effects compared to the same period of the previous year, shows KSH.

    The volume of sales, adjusted for calendar effects, rose by 1.8% in specialized and non-specialized food shops, by 0.7% in non-food retail shops and decreased by 13.8% in automotive fuel retailing.

    In January–May 2020, the volume of sales – also according to calendar adjusted data – was 1.5% higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year.

    Declining retail sales in May 2020 were largely driven by the impact of the coronavirus epidemic, with epidemic emergency causing an 8.6 percentage point decrease, turning the estimated 6.5% increase without the epidemic into a 2.1% decline.

    The volume index for non-food retail shops was 11% lower, while automotive fuel retailing was 19 percentage points lower than previously estimated. Food store sales were only slightly affected by the impact of coronavirus.

    SPAR Italy partner Maiora has reopened its Interspar store in Scalea, near Cosenza, after a comprehensive renovation aimed at future-proofing this hypermarket.

    With a sales area of 1.600 sqm, the compact hypermarket boasts enhanced departments, a new layout, and numerous new services for its customers. DESPAR Centro-Sud carried out renovation works of this store during the coronavirus emergency.

    A real highlight of the revamped INTERSPAR store is the instore seating area where visitors can enjoy freshly prepared foods purchased at the fresh counters. The Fresh Fish section now features a fried seafood service to offer fragrant foods to eat either instore or take out.

    The fine wine department comprises a vast assortment of the best Italian wines, in a refined shopping environment with high-end fixtures.

    In total, this Interspar Hypermarket employs 42 SPAR colleagues, providing an important source of employment for its local communities.

    Volume of retail trade up by 17.8% in euro area in May 2020

    In May 2020 the volume of retail trade increased by 17.8% in the euro area and by 16.4% in the EU, compared with April 2020, according to estimates from Eurostat.

    In April 2020, the retail trade volume decreased by 12.1% in the euro area and by 11.4% in the EU.

    In May 2020 compared with May 2019, the calendar adjusted retail sales index decreased by 5.1% in the euro area and by 4.2% in the EU.

    In the euro area in May 2020, compared with April 2020, the volume of retail trade increased by 38.4% for automotive fuels, by 34.5% for non-food products and by 2.2% for food, drinks and tobacco.

    In the EU, the volume of retail trade increased by 31.9% for automotive fuels, by 30.2% for non-food products and by 2.1% for food, drinks and tobacco.

    It can be noted that the volume of retail trade in textiles, clothing and footwear rose by 147.0% in the euro area and by 130.7% in the EU.

    The volume of retail trade increased in all Member States for which data are available, except in Bulgaria, where it remained unchanged. The highest increases were registered in Luxembourg (+28.6%), France (+25.6%) and Austria (+23.3%).
