    First eMAG showroom outside Romania, in Budapest

    • eMAG opened the first showroom outside Romania, in Hungary.
    • eMAG Hungary targets sales of € 300 million by the end of 2020 and sales of € 1 billion over five years.

    Located in the center of Budapest, the showroom offers customers access to the latest products in the electro-IT field such as mobile phones, tablets, TVs, small appliances, but also personal care products, toys and accessories.

    Moreover, customers will be able to pick up orders placed online from the showroom.

    To diversify personal pick-up options, the company will install 100 easyboxes by next Black Friday, of which 50 will be operational by September.

    eMAG Hungarian team currently has 500 employees, and by the end of the year it will reach 550.

    Retail sales in Poland, 7.7% lower than the year before

    In May 2020 retail sales at constant prices were by 7.7% lower than the year before (against a growth of 5.6% in May 2019).

    Compared with April 2020 retail sales increased by 14.9%.

    In the period of January-May 2020 retail sales were by 6.2% lower (against a growth of 6.5% in 2019).

    In May this year compared with the previous month, a drop in retail sales value via internet was recorded (by 12.7%). The share of such sales (in current prices) decreased from 11.9% in April this year to 9.1% in May this year.

    A decline in the share of sales via Internet was reported by enterprises classified into the group “textiles, clothing, footwear“ (from 61.3% a month before to 26.8%) as well as by entities from groups “newspapers, books, other sale in specialized stores” (from 39.9% to 25.2% respectively) and “furniture, radio, TV and household appliances “ (from 28.6% to 15.6%).

    62 Kaufhof stores will be closed

    Heute writes that at least 62 Kaufhof stores will be closed. This means that 6.000 full-time jobs will be affected.

    It is not yet clear which branches are affected. Originally there was even talk that 80 of the 170 Kaufhof department stores would be closed.

    Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof is part of the Signa Group of Tyrolean investor René Benko. Benko is said to have kept the company afloat with 140 million as rents have been suspended. Negotiations were also held with banks for loans.

    However, no agreement was reached and a protective shield procedure was initiated at the beginning of April.

    Tesco agrees sale of business in Poland to Salling Group A/S

    Tesco announces the sale of its business in Poland to Salling Group A/S. The transaction, which is subject to antitrust approval, includes the sale of 301 stores together with the associated distribution centres and head office.

    Total enterprise value agreed for the transaction is PLN 900m (equivalent to £181m), with total net proceeds expected to be approximately PLN 819m (equivalent to £165m), settled in cash, with completion expected in the current financial year.

    Over the past 18 months, Tesco has either sold or agreed to sell 22 stores for net proceeds of c.£200m.

    The group will continue to seek to realise value from the remaining assets, which include 19 currently trading stores not covered in this transaction.

    Salling Group A/S serves 11 million customers every week across Germany, Poland and Denmark, with 50,000 colleagues and an annual turnover of approximately GBP 7bn.

    Tesco Polska generated sales exc. VAT and PFS of £1,368m and an operating loss before exceptional items of £(24)m in the 2019/20 financial year.

    All 301 stores included in the transaction will be rebranded during an 18-month transition period.

    The Board of Directors of Citycon Oyj has decided that an equity repayment of EUR 0.1250 per share will be distributed from the invested unrestricted equity fund of the company.

    The equity repayment will be paid to a shareholder registered in the company’s shareholders’ register maintained by Euroclear Finland Ltd on the record date of the repayment 22 June 2020.

    The equity repayment will be paid on 30 June 2020.Following the asset distribution on 30 June 2020, Citycon Oyj has distributed a total dividend and equity repayment of EUR 0.2875 per share during the year 2020.

    On 28 May 2020 it was announced that in 2020 the Board of Directors will use a maximum total amount of EUR 0.5375 per share from its total dividend and equity repayment authorization of EUR 0.65 per share from the Annual General Meeting 2020.

    In the collection consisting of 13 pieces, puff print, which is a tapestry-like fluffy print type with ethnic patterns, was used.

    Ecru color dominates in this collection, which offers weaving and knitting options, and a colorful appearance was demonstrated with red and blue print tones. Natural looking fabrics called crinkle were used in weaving and knitting groups.

    It is possible to place orders online between 09:00 and 18:00 every day of the week through Whatsapp Business Line, which is specially formed for the application that offers ease of shopping for customers.

    Orders arrive within 24 hours in Nairobi and within 48 hours outside Nairobi.

    Carrefour Polska is developing the format of certified organic food stores. On June 16, just over half a year after Carrefour BIO’s debut on the Polish market, the chain opens another store in this concept.

    The new, expanded facility is located in Warsaw’s Bemowo at ul. Pełczyńskiego 5 and offers its clients approximately 2.600 products.

    In the Carrefour BIO store offer, almost 90% of the products are certified.

    There are also gluten-free, lactose-free, no added sugar, diet, vegan or vegetarian products.

    Carrefour is the first retailer in the world to offer its customers the new integrated voice shopping service on the Google Assistant.

    Based on a combination of advanced technologies, this innovative service simplifies and personalizes the grocery shopping experience.

    This integration enabled a triple innovation:

    • the Google Assistant allows the user to add items to their shopping list by voice using common words such as butter, milk and cheese. Because the Assistant is connected to Carrefour’s e-commerce inventory, it is then able to convert that list into a cart of products available for sale on carrefour.fr;
    • the conversion is customized, so the specific items added to the shopping cart by the Google Assistant reflect the user’s product preferences as closely as possible, while leaving the user free to delete, modify or add products as they wish;
    • once the shopping cart is confirmed on the Google Assistant, the customer moves seamlessly to Carrefour’s e-commerce site to finalize their order, confirm their slot and delivery method (drive, drive piéton or home delivery), pay and take advantage of their loyalty benefits.

    Hard Rock announced plans to reopen company-owned locations in the United States and Europe, in compliance with recommendations from national and local health officials.

    Hard Rock Cafes have implemented “SAFE + SOUND”, a new program featuring stringent guidelines developed in collaboration with leading worldwide health and sanitization partners like ECOSURE and the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF).

    The “SAFE + SOUND” program implements the highest of level of safety, sanitation, food handling and employee training.

    As part of the new protocol, all guests and team members will be required to participate in a state-of-the-art, non-intrusive thermal temperature screening process before entering each Hard Rock Cafe location.

    At approximately 7.000 m2 the flea market next to Naschmarkt reopened on June 13. Vendors can sell again art objects, second-hand household goods, literature and other antiques.

    In order to reopen the market office had to implement various safety measures.
