    Globalworth to start Renoma Department Store renovation project

    Globalworth has obtained a permit to renovate and rebuild the Renoma Department Store located in Wrocław, Poland.

    The iconic building is to undergo a metamorphosis giving it a new design and a new range of stores. The building’s future interior will resemble the architecture of the historic Wertheim Department Store.

    The works are planned to start in Q4 this year. To avoid disturbing shoppers, the renovations will be done in several stages and will last about two years. 

    The new Renoma will have additional office spaces and include a food area with restaurants, bars, bistros. The design was inspired by Hala Koszyki, the culinary centre of Warsaw, owned and managed by Globalworth. 

    Renoma was built in 1930 and is one of Poland’s most prominent retail buildings

    After being extended and upgraded in 2009, the property was put into use with over 120 stores and service points opened on the two lowest levels. The floors above are taken up by offices & restaurant sections.

    Along with Hala Koszyki in Warsaw and Supersam in Katowice, Renoma is the third mixed-use development in the Globalworth Poland portfolio.

    Bonami to open at least 26 new stores until the end of next year

    Bonami opened its first two physical stores in Prague this year, and the network will expand rapidly this year beyond the Czech Republic, in the main cities of the countries where Bonami is present.

    Bonami plans to open 6 more stores by the end of the year and 20 in 2021.

    ”For the next period, the priority is to open as soon as possible a wide network of stores, which also serve as showrooms and as order pick-up points, first in Slovakia and Hungary, followed by Romania and Poland”, said Pavel Vopařil, Bonami CEO.

    In addition to these services, the company has inaugurated its own transport network, dedicated especially to large pieces of furniture.

    Launched in spring, the service proved to be a real success from the first months of operation, and was rapidly expanded, with deliveries now being made in Prague, Bratislava and Budapest, and in the near future in Bucharest.

    Regarding the forecast for 2021, an increase of 35% is expected. ”We expect a turnover of 100 million euros, of which 13 million on the Romanian market,” said Pavel Vopařil.

    SPAR Norway returns to Kongsberg and Bekkelaget

    SPAR Norway opened two new stores in Kongsberg and Bekkelaget. Both stores mark the return of SPAR in this communities.

    Shoppers in Kongsberg welcomed the return of SPAR after a 15-year hiatus, with opening weekend sales reaching NOK 1.1 million (€100.000). 

    The store features self-checkouts and an LED-lighting system, in addition to the expansive assortment of food and beverages.

    Kongsberg is widely regarded as the tech capital of Norway. The SPAR store is located just outside of the city centre. An industrial area is currently under development next to the store, which is expected to create over 1.000 jobs over the next few years.

    SPAR Bekkelaget opened in Ottestad (Hamar region), a town with a population of 12.659. On the opening day, the store welcomed 1.500 customers and achieved sales of NOK 320,000 (€32.000).

    SPAR Hungary to expand two distribution centres

    SPAR Hungary is expanding by 4.000 m2 its dry goods warehouse and fresh goods delivery area at the SPAR Distribution Centre in Bicske.

    This investment will bring the total storage space to almost 40.000m2, and increase the distribution centre’s stocking capacity by 4.000 pallets.

    In addition, the total investment will cover the development of offices and the construction of access paths at a cost of 2.5 billion HUF.

    The second SPAR Distribution Centre in Üllő, a new dry goods warehouse of 6.000m2 with a storage capacity of 5.000 pallets is being built.

    In addition, a 2.000m2 gallery suitable for stocking goods of is being constructed. A new pallet lifting machine that can move 4.000 pallets a day will support this expanded capacity.

    SPAR Hungary operates 382 company-owned stores and 200 independently owned stores nationwide.

    In September, the retailer continued its plan to upgrade local stores. The company spent a total of HUF 1.56 billion on its renewed units in Budakeszin, Nyergesújfalu and Komárom.

    DeeZee is launching the first collection of women’s clothing, complementing the offer of footwear and accessories.

    The new collection of DeeZee clothes is created in response to numerous questions from deezee.pl customers. Its design will refer to the well-known brand of the current shoe collection.

    The first collection will be available online at deezee.pl later this year.

    Today, DeeZee.pl is one of the largest online stores with women’s footwear in Poland, and the brand’s shoes can also be found in every CCC stationary store.

    Dominika Żak, founder and CEO of DeeZee, is responsible for the design of the clothing collection.

    Fosun acquires 100% of Tom Tailor GmbH

    Fosun acquires 100 percent of the shares in Tom Tailor GmbH, together with its subsidiary companies. 

    Fosun purchased the minority of brand shares of its listing company Tom Tailor Holding SE (Tom Tailor Group) as early as 2014.

    After years of investment and funding, Fosun finally acquired its controlling stake in 2019.

    The company can implement the numerous operational and strategic measures as planned:

    • Improve products: Tom Tailor GmbH will invest in effectively improving the quality and appeal of its products.
    • Increase customer loyalty: Tom Tailor GmbH will introduce a variety of individual initiatives to significantly improve and maintain the loyalty of its customers in the long term.
    • Continue with targeted internationalisation: Tom Tailor GmbH aims to continue its successful growth trajectory in several countries outside of its existing core markets, particularly in South-Eastern Europe.

    Lidl to invest 350 million euros by 2023 in Greece

    Lidl plans to invest 350 million euros in Greece by 2023 and the opening of 11 new stores, over half of them in Athens.

    Lidl will open two new stores in Athens by February, another four stores in 2021 and five in 2022 and to build a new logistics center.

    Lidl launched a loyalty program

    The company launched the Lidl Plus loyalty program for purchases in all 225 stores on its network, offering registered users attractive offers on favorite products.

    At the same time, it enables the customer to monitor transactions at any time and the amount they save through online in-app purchase copies and provides access to Lidl’s digital brochures.

    Lidl Plus operates exclusively on smartphones (Android & iOS).

    IGD shopping centers in Italy, sales up 4.2% in August 2020

    IGD – Immobiliare Grande Distribuzione, announces that the performances at IGD’s shopping centers continue to recover, with retailers’ August sales at the Italian shopping malls up 4.2% compared to the same period of the prior year.

    Footfalls maintain a growth trend month-over-month (August was 12.6% lower than in 2019 and the figures for the first half of September show further improvement) and the average ticket continuing to rise (+19.1%).

    Among the various merchandise categories, the performances of electronics and household goods were particularly positive, rising +10.6% and +15.0% against August 2019, respectively.

    Other categories, like restaurants and services are recovering, but continue to be penalized also by contingent factors like the widespread use of smart working and the impossibility of organizing large events inside shopping centers.

    Lastly, particularly noteworthy is the 9.6% increase posted by clothing, one of the most prevalent categories of merchandise found in IGD’s malls.

    eMag opens its first showroom in Sofia, Bulgaria

    eMAG continues its international expansion and opens the first showroom in Sofia, Bulgaria, after three months ago the company opened its first showroom outside Romania, in Hungary.

    The company plans to open three more showrooms in Bulgaria in H1 2021.

    Sofia eMag.bg showroom is located in Serdika Center, one of the largest shopping malls in the Bulgarian capital.

    The international expansion of the company also derives from the increased interest of Romanian retailers to sell their products on other European markets.

    In Bulgaria alone, there are currently over 400 Romanian sellers trading through the eMAG Marketplace platform.

    Currently, eMAG has 15 showrooms in Romania and three abroad. eMAG has been present in Bulgaria since 2012 with a team of 200 employees.

    B&Q plan a shop within shop trial of compact B&Q stores in four Asda superstores. The first two compact stores will open at Asda’s Dagenham and Sheffield Drakehouse stores later this year.

    The 200-300 sq m concessions will give customers the chance to shop a broad range of B&Q products in-store or place an order via diy.com for home delivery or Click & Collect.

    The B&Q trial concessions in Asda stores will offer a range of paint (including paint mixing) as well as tools, hardware and other DIY essentials.

    B&Q is the UK’s leading home improvement and garden living retailer with 297 stores across the UK.

    SPAR Slovenia opens eco-friendly supermarket in Logatec

    SPAR Slovenia opened a new SPAR Supermarket in Logatec, its 106th store in the country.

    The 1,700 sq. m supermarket was newly built within seven months, and offers 90 parking spaces.

    The store is opened seven days a week, Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 8 pm and from 8 am to 1pm on Sunday.

    Eco-friendly store

    During construction, SPAR Slovenia focused on energy-efficient options, implementing energy-saving LED lighting as well as a transcritical CO2 system which makes use of excess heat for heating and cooling.

    This system makes the new store eco-friendly, requiring no traditional energy sources.

    Plastic free True Gum products are available, since last week, in all DM Drogerie Markt stores in Austria and Kaufland stores in Germany.

    In Germany, True Gum is already present from September 2019 and is available in DM Drogerie Markt Germany, Dirk Rossmann, EDEKA, Budni, Globus and Famila Nordost stores.

    True Gum is made in Copenhagen and is free from plastic, sugar, aspartame and anything artificial. Also, it’s vegan and 100% biodegradable.

    There are eight gum flavours: Mint & Matcha, Raspberry & Vanilla, Ginger & Turmeric and Liquorice & Eucalyptus.
