    10 biggest startup layoffs in 2020 hit 25,500. Uber leads with 30%

    Data presented by Buy Shares indicates that approximately 25,500 jobs have been lost in the top ten largest startup layoffs amid the pandemic.

    The layoffs were recorded between March 2020 and January 2021.

    Cab hailing firm Uber from the transport sector leads with 7,525 layoffs accounting for 29.5% of all the highlighted job losses.

    Booking.com from the travel industry is second with 4,375 layoffs followed by e-commerce marketplace Groupon at 2,800.

    Vacation rental platform Airbnb is fourth with 1,900 layoffs followed by online tutoring platform WhiteHat Jr at 1,800.

    Insurance aggregator PaisaBazaar ranks sixth at 1,500 followed by online travel agency Agoda which has registered 1,500 layoffs.

    Online personal styling company Stitch Fix saw 1,400 workers get laid offs followed by ride-sharing firm Ola at 1,400. Stone from the financial industry had the least layoffs in the tenth spot at 1,300.

    Sodexo has signed a partnership with Booking.com to enable users of Tourist Pass vouchers and cards to book holidays in Romania using the digital travel platform.

    The partnership promotes the network of over 6,000 Sodexo travel affiliates.

    Recipients of Sodexo holiday vouchers are able to book stays across Romania by visiting http://booking.com/sodexoromania.

    All properties that allow payment by the Tourist Pass card have been clearly highlighted and payment can be made at the property using either vouchers or the Tourist Pass card, or through mobile payment tools such as Sodexo Pay or Apple Pay.

    Booking.com has more than 20,000 accommodation options in Romania, of which over 6,000 are available for booking by Sodexo users.

    Tourist Pass holiday vouchers are similar benefits to meal vouchers, which employees can use to purchase travel services anywhere in Romania (the travel package may include along with accommodation, other services as meals, transport, leisure activities).

    This benefit allows companies to motivate employees, ensuring the necessary work-life balance. The Tourist Pass card does not impose value limits and facilitates secure and contactless payments.

    The validiy of vouchers granted between March 2019 – December 2019 has been extended by law until May 31, 2021.

    TUI and Booking.com announce a strategic partnership

    TUI and Booking.com announced a strategic global experiences, activities and excursions partnership, providing Booking.com customers worldwide with direct access to the growing activities segment of TUI and its digital subsidiary Musement.

    The contracts have been signed and the cooperation will start in summer 2020.

    Activities, a growth driver for TUI

    Activities is one of the growth drivers of the TUI Group, which last year sold approximately ten million activities in holiday destinations and in European home markets, such as Germany.

    Under the agreement with Booking.com, customers will eventually have direct access to a portfolio of over 70,000 tours, attractions and activities via TUI subsidiary Musement, launching incrementally on Booking.com over the coming months.

    Musement will be the first third-party provider of tours, and activities inventory on the Booking.com travel platform, as the company seeks to expand its offering and provide customers with a more comprehensive end-to-end travel offering.

    TUI acquired Musement 18 months ago

    TUI acquired Musement, a Milan-based technology start-up, 18 months ago and intends to develop it into the world’s leading platform for tours and activities.

    The next step is to grow the platform’s portfolio to encompass one million activities, experiences and excursions.

    The goal is for customers to be able to take full advantage of the digital offering whether at home or on holiday.

    The marketing of TUI’s products to Booking.com customers is currently slated to start in July, with customers being able to choose from upto 70,000 options from the Musement inventory of tours, attractions, activities and experiences.

    As part of the agreement, the TUI subsidiary will continue to expand its portfolio over the coming weeks and months, taking into account the special requirements of Booking.com.
