    Polish retailer HalfPrice to open first store in Slovakia this spring

    The first store of the HalfPrice chain is just being built in Nitra, Slovakia and will be opened in April 2022.

    Slovakia is the fifth foreign market to which the CCC Group’s off-price chain will be present.

    HalfPrice Nitra will be located in the Promenada Shopping Mall. In this country, CCC currently has 54 offline stores.

    Eight months from its launch, over 40 HalfPrice stores operate in the Czechia, Austria, Croatia and Hungary, in addition to Poland.

    HalfPrice is a store concept in the off-price segment, offering a wide variety of popular brands including clothing, footwear, accessories, cosmetics, toys and home furnishings.

    • CCC ended the fourth quarter of 2020, which included January 2021, with sales broadly unchanged year on year.
    • Revenue for the period, at PLN 2 bn.

    Amid the prolonged lockdowns across the group’s markets, e-commerce grew 84% year on year, with over 78% of sales generated via online channels in January alone.

    Revenue for the full-year 2020/21 (13 months) was PLN 5,6bn, of which 48% was e-commerce sales (up 71% yoy). Year on year, sales fell just 3%.

    E-obuwie remains CCC’s power engine

    55% contribution of online to revenue reported in the fourth quarter of 2020/21 was an unprecedented result in CCC’s operating history.

    E-obuwie remains the power engine of our e-commerce business, with fourth-quarter sales at PLN 919m (up 69% yoy) and EBITDA margin at 8,9% (up 2,7pp yoy).

    The group’s other e-commerce platforms (ccc.eu, DeeZee, Gino Rossi) accounted for 16% of online sales in the fourth quarter of 2020/21, compared with 9% a year earlier.

    Each recorded a triple-digit growth in sales, and ccc.eu alone saw its sales surge 353% year on year. 

    Clothing range is gaining traction

    Modivo grew 137% yoy, delivering PLN 268m in revenue for the full year 2020 (a five-fold increase on the previous year).

    Sales of DeeZee clothing, launched in December, account for 16% of total sales (up 9p.p. month-over-month).

    Polish women have an average of 17 pairs of shoes, and Poles 7 pairs, a CCC report shows. Women have an average of 3 pairs of high heels, most often black and beige.

    On the other hand, Poles prefer everyday shoes, all-year-round, often sports shoes.

    2/3 of them declare that they have at least one pair of casual sports shoes and those intended for sports.

    Women most often choose black or beige high heels (75% and 31% respectively), while red is only in third place.

    Poles prefer black shoes, white (especially in sports models), beige and brown (among low shoes) are also popular.

    More than half of Polish men and women have sneakers (53%) and shoes for active sports (as much as 63%) in their wardrobes.

    In turn, the most frequently worn footwear in the 18-45 age group is everyday sneakers.

    According to the study, 2/3 of women buy shoes in sizes 37-39, and 2/3 of men wear sizes 42-44.

    CCC started testing a new service where a product ordered online would be delivered to the customer’s doorstep within 60 minutes from the time of placing the order.

    Products to be delivered would be taken from brick-and-mortar stores. The new service would be available in Warsaw already in November and soon afterwards – in other big cities.

    After entering his or her postal code when placing an online order, a customer would see the available delivery options.

    Orders made in Warsaw would have the ”same-day delivery” filter avaible.

    If this option is chosen, the order will be transferred to a CCC store in the city centre and a courier will be promptly notified via a dedicated app that the order has been packed and is ready to be picked up and delivered to the customer.

    CCC Group closed Q3 2020 with overall revenue growth of 8% and a surge in e-commerce revenue (up 61%).

    Eobuwie remains the driving engine of online sales at the CCC Group, but the contribution from other platforms to total revenue (23%) is on the rise. In the third quarter, the share of CCC.eu in the Group’s e-commerce revenue grew to 11% (from 3% a year earlier).

    CCC to close 108 stores by the end of this year

    CCC wants to significantly downscale its initial targets for retail space expansion (only +9 thousand m2 at the end of Q3 from the year’s beginning vs the initial plans of +60 thousand m2).

    By the end of this year, the CCC Group will also close down a total of 108 stores.

    After iOS, CCC introduces searching for products based on a photo on all communication channels – Android platform, ccc.eu online store, and Messenger.

    The customer can now take any photo of shoes or handbags and use the image search engine to see the most similar products in the CCC offers.

    The solution can be used in the first place by users in Poland and Hungary.

    How the solution works

    This is a version of the technology used in Google Lens, personalized for CCC, which is based on the use of image analysis by deep neural networks.

    The algorithm identifies the characteristic features of a given product and searches for the most similar ones from the store’s product set. It can recognize and distinguish all products in the photo, which are also in the store’s offer.

    CCC reported a revenue increase for Q2 and Q3 2020 of 82% and 60% year on year, respectively.

    CCC’s LFL sales surged quarter on quarter, from -48% in Q2 to -16% in Q3, driven by a steady increase in foot traffic at the CCC stores, significant conversion levels, and purchase baskets.

    The share of e-commerce sales (carried out through 64 online platforms) in the group’s revenue in Q2 2020 was close to 50%, compared with 23% a year earlier, and in Q3 2020 it was 38% (preliminary data), relative to 25% a year earlier.

    In Q2 and Q3, CCC significantly developed its online points of contact with the customer by launching 12 new desktop platforms and applications on new foreign markets.

    In Q2, the e-commerce revenue from platforms other than eobuwie reached PLN 156m (25% of the e-commerce segment’s sales).

    Eobuwie posted revenues of PLN 538m (up 54% year on year) for Q2 2020 and almost tripled its EBITDA margin, up 9.1pp year on year (to 14.1%).

    At the end of Q2 2020, the total area of the CCC sales network was 762,000 m2 (including KVAG 74,000 m2). At the end of September 2020, the CCC Group was present in 29 countries.

    In 22 of them CCC operated more than 1.209 traditional stores (including 156 KVAG stores), and had an online presence in 17 countries.

    The group operates a total of 66 online platforms across Europe, including eobuwie.pl, ccc.eu, MODIVO, DeeZee, and Gino Rossi.

    DeeZee introduces the eco-friendly packaging, e-receipts and e-invoices

    DeeZee, an online retailer part of CCC Group, decided to stop the use of non-recyclable film and the implementation of eco-friendly packaging from secondary raw materials by the end of 2020.

    The brand also stoped printing proofs of purchase in its online store deezee.pl, changing them to an electronic form.

    The brand decisions are in line with the environmental policy of the CCC Group

    By the end of 2020, plastic bags will disappear from all CCC Group stores.

    In 2021, 70% of in-house packaging will be recycled, and in 2022, 80% of this packaging will be reusable.

    The mobile application of CCC has been downloaded by customers over 2 million times after less than 1.5 years from its launch.

    The application is already available on six markets, in Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Romania, Austria and Hungary, and there are plans to introduce it for two more.

    The app receives good user ratings – an average of 4.4 in the Google Play Store and 4.7 in the App Store.

    The CCC application has a number of useful functionalities such as visual search (IOS and soon for Android), checking the availability of products in stationary stores, access to your CCC Club card and the possibility of joining it.

    CCC team is working on developing new functions.

    In last year’s edition of the Ecommerce Awards competition organized by the Chamber of Electronic Economy, the CCC application won in the “Best on mobile” category.

    CCC launched its mobile application on the Austrian market. It is available on Google Play and will soon be available in the App Store.

    Austria is the fourth foreign market, after the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, where CCC customers can use the mobile application.

    The CCC application makes it easier for customers to shop online thanks to the use of modern functionalities such as Visual Search – product search based on a photo (available on the iOS operating system, soon also on Android) or “Discover” (like / dislike) – searching by rating products available in the shop.

    The customer can also check the availability of products in stationery stores or find the nearest store. Users have access to the current promotional offer online and in stationery stores, while members of the CCC Club use the mobile version of their loyalty card.

    The group has a total of over 60 online platforms across Europe: through the eobuwie.pl, ccc.eu, MODIVO, DeeZee, and Gino Rossi domains.

    In 2019, CCC customers purchased over 52 million pairs of footwear in all sales channels.

    At the end of June, a year has passed since the launch of the CCC online store.

    The store has already completed over 1.5 million orders, has a level of even 13.5 million customer visits per month and is now available on five foreign markets outside Poland (Slovakia, Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Austria).

    The ccc.eu platform is part of the CCC omnichannel sales model, which is one of the basic pillars of GO.22’s business strategy.

    The site offers convenient, quick online shopping, as well as additional functionalities such as checking the availability of a given footwear model and booking it in the store, or checking recommendations for the correct size (esize.me).

    CCC application is responsible in some months for up to 30% of the store’s turnover and will soon celebrate 2 million downloads.

    In total, the mobile channel (www and application) is responsible for 75-80% of traffic on CCC websites.

    CCC clients can search for products based in any photo

    In June, Messenger was added to the visual search service that allows customers to search for products from the CCC offer based on any photo (which until now was only available in the CCC application).

    CCC is the first fashion brand in Poland has also started using Google Voice Assistant, where the customer can, among others check the availability of products in stationary stores or find the nearest store.
