Volvo Trucks to launch a complete range of electric trucks in 2021

Volvo Trucks will offer a complete heavy-duty range with electric drivelines starting in Europe in 2021.

The company is running tests of the electric heavy-duty Volvo FH, Volvo FM and Volvo FMX trucks, which will be used for regional transport and urban construction operations in Europe.

These trucks will have a gross combination weight of up to 44 tonnes. Depending on the battery configuration the range could be up to 300 km.

Sales will begin next year and volume production will start in 2022.

Volvo Trucks started manufacturing the Volvo FL Electric and Volvo FE Electric in 2019. These are electric trucks intended for city distribution and refuse operations, primarily in Europe.

In North America, sales of the Volvo VNR Electric, a truck for regional transport, will start on December 3, 2020.

SPAR Switzerland adds fully electric truck to its fleet

SPAR Switzerland has added a fully electric vehicle to its fleet. The new e-truck, a 264kW (360hp) e-truck from MAN, will transport food products emission-free and almost silently from the central warehouse to SPAR stores in the Appenzell region and Thurgau.

SPAR Switzerland first started using hybrid trucks at the end of 2011. In 2017, a more modern and economical Euro 6 engine used to supply SPAR stores in the capital city Zurich, replaced this truck.

The new e-truck can cover around 180km per charge, depending on the climatic and topographical conditions. Thanks to the sophisticated braking energy recovery system, the 180km range can be extended.

A display in the cockpit informs the driver on the current energy capacity.

The new e-truck will be used in the Appenzell region in the morning and in Thurgau in the afternoon. The silent e-truck can save 19,000 litres of diesel per year, leading to a reduction of 50 tonnes in CO2 emissions.

  • Scania will deliver 75 battery electric trucks to ASKO in Norway

Scania will deliver 75 battery electric trucks to ASKO in Norway

Scania will deliver up to 75 battery electric trucks to ASKO over the following three years. Earlier this year, ASKO started operations with four hydrogen powered fuel cell electric Scania trucks and in February, ASKO added two battery electric Scania distribution trucks to its fleet.

ASKO has now – within its three-year framework agreement with Scania for 2020-2022 – stated its intension to order up to 75 battery electric trucks.

”Our goal is to have an emission free fleet of trucks by 2026. The battery electric trucks from Scania are an important step on the journey towards fossil free transports for ASKO,” says Torbjørn Johannson, Chairman of the Board, ASKO NORGE AS.

Scania recently presented its approved Science Based Targets, which not only include a dramatic reduction of its own carbon emission but also its clear quantified aim to ensure reduced emissions among its customers.

Scania’s official launch plans for its battery electric trucks will be presented later in 2020.
