    Greek accommodation and food, beverage services recorded big decrease in turnover

    For accommodation activities in Greece, the turnover in 2020 amounted to 2,303,658,141 euro, recording a decrease of 67.0%.

    In 2019 the respective turnover was 6,991,184,282 euro.

    The largest decrease in turnover in 2020 compared with 2019 was recorded in Karpathos (83.5%) and the smallest decrease (14.3%) was recorded in Florina.

    For the enterprises in Food and Beverage Service Activities, the turnover in 2020 amounted to 3,773,850,833 euro.

    This is a 37.7% decrease in comparison with 2019, when the respective turnover was 6,059,184,851 euro.

    The largest decrease in turnover was recorded in Mykonos (73.3%) and and Santorini (71%), while the respective smallest decrease (17.3%) was recorded in Korinthia.

    Greece: Turnover down by 59% in food service sector in Q2 2020

    For the total of enterprises in Food and Beverage Service Activities in Greece, the turnover in the second quarter 2020 amounted to 592.729.473 euro.

    This is a decrease of 59.0% in comparison with the second quarter 2019, when the respective turnover was 1.446.782.662 euro.

    The largest decrease in the turnover of the second quarter 2020 compared to the second quarter of 2019 was recorded in the Regional Unit Thira (95.6%) while the respective smallest decrease (33.3%) was recorded in the Regional Unit Grevena.

    For the enterprises in Food and Beverage Service Activities obliged to double-entry bookkeeping, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in August 2020 amounted to 124.306.749 euro, recording a decrease of 33.6% in comparison with August 2019, when the respective turnover was 187.304.387 euro.

    Greece: Unemployment rate at 17.0% in May 2020

    Unemployment rate in May 2020 was 17.0% compared to the downward revised 17.2% in May 2019 and to the upward revised 15.7% in April 2020, Elstat shows.

    The number of employed in May 2020 amounted to 3,729,591 persons. The number of unemployed amounted to 764,912 while the number of inactive amounted to 3,401,996.

    The number of employed persons decreased by 193,312 persons compared with May 2019 (a 4.9% rate of decrease) and by 128,924 persons compared with April 2020 (a 3.3% rate of decrease).

    The number of unemployed persons decreased by 52,396 persons compared with May 2019 (a 6.4% rate of decrease) and increased by 48,444 persons compared with April 2020 (a 6.8% rate of increase).

    The number of inactive persons, i.e., persons that neither work nor look for a job, increased by 205.247 persons compared with May 2019 (a 6.4% rate of increase) and by 77,988 persons compared with April 2020 (a 2.3% rate of increase).

    Job vacancies in Greece recorded a decrease of 23.5% in Q1 2020

    The number of job vacancies in the 1st quarter 2020 recorded a decrease of 23.5% in comparison with the 1st quarter 2019 (9.617 and 12.570 correspondingly).

    The corresponding number of job vacancies in the 1st quarter 2019 had recorded a decrease of 12.4% in comparison with the 1st quarter 2018.

    Data gathered by The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) is avaible for the whole economy excluding Primary Sector and Activities of Households, referring to the 1st quarter 2020.

    Greece: The average income per person reached 9.382 euros in 2019

    The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) announces that the average equivalized income per person reached 9.382 euros in 2019, a figure 3.9% higher than that recorded in the previous year.

    According to the results of the 2019 Survey on Income and Living Conditions, persons at risk of poverty or social exclusion represent 30.0% of the total population (3.161.900 persons), recording a decrease compared to 2018 by 1.8 percentage points.

    The risk of poverty or social exclusion is higher for persons aged 18-64 years (33.1%) and the share of persons at-risk-of-poverty or social exclusion aged 18-64 years amounts to 31.4% regarding Greek nationals and to 53.7% regarding foreign nationals residing in Greece.

    53.7% of foreigners residing in Greece, aged 18-64 years and being at risk-of-poverty or social exclusion were born in another country, while 30.9% of them are foreigners born and reside in Greece.
