Enel X customers will be able to rent Bird electric scooters in Italy

Enel X and Bird have consolidated their cooperation by adding to Enel X’s JuicePass app a section dedicated to the rental service of over 5,000 Bird electric scooters in different Italian cities, such as Turin, Rome, Milan, Verona, Rimini, and Pesaro.

The aim of this cooperation is to offer customers the option of a fully integrated mobility experience.

Enel X JuicePass users will be redirected to the Bird app to book and use the scooters once the nearest ones have been identified on the map.

EV drivers will now be able to park and refuel at the charging points accessible through JuicePass, and continue their journeys on Bird scooters, relieving city traffic and protecting the environment.

At the end of the journey, the scooter must be parked in a safe place that does not interfere with pedestrians and vehicles.

There is an initial charge for unlocking the vehicle and a fee per minute.

  • Enel Green Power starts construction of wind farm expansion in U.S.

Enel Green Power starts construction of wind farm expansion in U.S.

Enel Green Power started construction on the 199 MW expansion of the Cimarron Bend wind farm in Clark County, Kansas.

The expansion, consisting of 74 turbines, will increase the wind farm’s capacity to 599 MW from the current 400 MW, making it the largest wind farm in Enel’s North American portfolio.

Construction, which will involve an investment of over 281 million US dollars, is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.

Cimarron Bend’s first two phases entered into service in 2016 and 2017, involving an overall investment of over 891 million US dollars

Upon completion of the 199 MW addition, Cimarron Bend will generate a total of more than 2.7 TWh per year, equivalent to avoiding 1.8 million tons of CO2 emissions.

The electricity from a 150 MW portion of the expansion is being sold under a 15-year bundled power purchase agreement (PPA) with electric services company Evergy.

In January, Evergy committed to reducing carbon emissions 80% below 2005 levels by 2050.

Across the US and Canada, Enel Green Power is constructing nearly 1 GW of new wind and solar capacity in 2020. Other Enel Green Power construction projects include the 245 MW second phase of the Roadrunner solar project in Texas, the 236.5 MW White Cloud wind project in Missouri and the 299 MW Aurora wind project in North Dakota.

  • Enel to issue hybrid bonds up to a maximum of 1.5 billion euros

Enel to issue hybrid bonds up to a maximum of 1.5 billion euros

Enel decided to issue, by December 31st, 2021, one or more hybrid non-convertible subordinated bonds, in the maximum amount equal to the value of 1.5 billion euros.

Bonds are to be placed exclusively with EU and non-EU institutional investors, including through private placements.

The new issues are intended to refinance outstanding hybrid bonds for which early repayment options may be exercised as from this year, thus allowing the Enel Group to maintain a financial structure that is consistent with the assessment criteria of rating agencies and to actively manage maturities and the cost of debt.

Enel Chief Executive Officer will have the task of deciding the issue of the new bonds and their respective characteristics, and therefore to establish, for each issue, times, amount, currency, interest rate and further terms and conditions, as well as placement methods and any listing on regulated markets or multilateral trading facilities, taking account developments in market conditions.

  • Enel income increases 10,5% in the first quarter

Enel income increases 10,5% in the first quarter

Enel Group net income was 1,247 million euros (1,256 million euros in the first quarter of 2019, -0.7%). Group net ordinary income was 1,281 million euros (1,159 million euros in the first quarter of 2019, +10.5%) net of extraordinary items in the two periods under review.

Enel revenues were 19,985 million euros (22,755 million euros in the first quarter of 2019, -12.2%).

The change is mainly attributable to lower volumes of electricity sales in Italy and Spain as well as gas in Spain, to Thermal Generation and Trading in Italy, reflecting a decline in trading activities and the effects connected with the application of IFRIC interpretations, on top of adverse exchange rate developments, especially in Brazil, Chile and Colombia

Net financial debt was 47,097 million euros (45,175 million euros at the end of 2019, +4.3%).

    Electricity and gas sales

Electricity sales in the first quarter of 2020 amounted to 77.7 TWh, a4.6 TWh decrease (-5.6%) on the same period of 2019. This change mainly reflects:

    • a decrease in quantities sold in Latin America (-1.7 TWh), mainly in Chile (-0.9 TWh);
    • a decrease in quantities sold in Italy (-2.7 TWh) and Spain (-0.7 TWh), partly offset by an increase in sales in Romania (+0.5 TWh).

Natural gas sales amounted to 3.7 billion cubic meters, down 0.3 billion cubic meters on the same period of the previous year.

The Enel Group workforce at March 31st, 2020 numbered 67,921 (68,253at December 31st, 2019). The change in the first three months of 2020 (-332) reflects the impact of the balance between new hires and terminations (-278), the change in the scope of consolidation (-54), mainly due to the disposal of hydro plants in the United States.
