    Industrial production decreased by 7.8% in Hungary, in June 2020

    In June 2020 the volume of industrial production declined by 7.8% year-on-year. Based on working-day adjusted data, production dropped by 12.2%. The economic effects caused by the coronavirus epidemic were still perceptible in this period.

    The production volume decreased in the majority of the manufacturing subsections. A significant fall was observed in the largest weight representing manufacture of transport equipment, while the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, as well as the manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products slightly grew.

    In the first six months of the year production was 12.8% lower than in the same period of the previous year.

    Industrial output in June – according to seasonally and working-day adjusted indices – was 17.1% above the level of the previous month.

    Latest KSH date show that in May 2020 the volume of industrial production lagged behind the high base of the previous year by 30.7%. Based on working-day adjusted data, production declined by 27.6%.

    The production volume decreased in every manufacturing subsection. An outstanding fall was observed in the largest weight representing manufacture of transport equipment, while the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products, as well as the manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products declined to a lesser degree.

    In the first five months of the year production was 13.8% lower than in the same period of the previous year.

    Industrial output in May – according to seasonally and working-day adjusted indices – was 15.6% above the level of the previous month.

    Industrial production decreased by 36.8% in Hungary

    In April 2020 the volume of industrial production declined by 36.8% year-on-year in Hungary, as KSH data shows.

    Based on working-day adjusted data, production fell by 36.6%.

    The economic effects caused by the coronavirus epidemic were significant in this period.

    The manufacture of transport equipment fell outstandingly, to one-fifth, due to the temporary total or partial production stoppage.

    The manufacture of food products, beverages and tobacco products declined to a lesser degree, while the manufacture basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations grew almost by one-fifth.

    The volume of industrial export dropped by 43% year-on-year. Transport equipment export, representing a 15% weight within export sales in manufacturing fell outstandingly, by 77%, while the export in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products accounting for a 19% weight declined by 23%.

    Industrial domestic sales decreased by 18.6%, within it domestic sales in manufacturing were 25% lower compared to the same month of the previous year.

    Hungary: Industrial production decreased by 5.6% in March

    In March 2020 the volume of industrial production declined by 5.6% year-on-year. Based on working-day adjusted data, production fell by 10.0%, Hungarian Central Statistical Office latest data show.

    The volume of industrial production decreased by 5.6% compared to the same period of the previous year.

    Industrial output in March – according to seasonally and working-day adjusted indices – was 10.4% below the level of the previous month.

    The volume of industrial export dropped by 8.1% year-on-year. Transport equipment export, representing a 32% weight within export sales in manufacturing fell by 22%; the export in manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products accounting for a 17% weight declined by 1.8%.

    Industrial domestic sales decreased by 0.8%, within it domestic sales in manufacturing were 1.9% lower compared to the same month of the previous year.

    Within industry production declined by 5.7% in the decisive weight (95%) representing manufacturing, while it dropped by 27% in the small weight representing mining and quarrying. The output of energy industry (electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply) rose by 5.4%.

    Industrial production increased only in Pest region (10.1%), Southern Transdanubia (by 5.0%), and the Northern Great Plain (by 3.3%).

    In the other regions volume decreases between 3.0% and 16.5% were recorded, the highest one in Western Transdanubia.
