    Notino, a 42% increase in turnover in 2020, to 563 million euros

    Notino reached an annual turnover of 563 million euros in 2020, an increase of almost 194 million euros compared to the previous year.

    The company delivered over 12 million packages in Europe, and during the Black Friday promotion, the busiest period before Christmas, it processed a number of 140,000 packages in one day.

    On average, the number of packages processed daily in 2020 was about 30,000.

    Perfumes increased by 22% year on year, in the case of makeup products the increase was almost 50%, and in terms of hair cosmetics and skin care, turnover increased by 70%.

    Notino is present in 24 markets and has over 16.5 million customers.

    Last year, the company opened a second logistics center in Romania, after the one in the Czech Republic.

    Shops in the Czech Republic will be forced to sell mainly local food

    Czech MPs passed an amendment on Wednesday forcing shops with an area of ​​at least 400 square meters to sell mainly local food, starting next year.

    According to this measure, Czech food products will have to represent at least 55% of the sales of these stores.

    Moreover, the share of local food would increase to 73% in 2028, according to the amendment passed by the far-right ”Freedom and Direct Democracy” (SPD) party.

    The quota only applies to food that can be produced in the Czech Republic.

    The Czech economic daily Hospodarske noviny reported on Wednesday that eight EU countries, including Germany and France in particular, have criticized the amendment on the quota for local food.

    Dutch non-food discounter Action enters the Czech Republic

    Action, the international non-food discounter, has opened its first two stores in the Czech Republic.

    The stores in Hradec Králové and Kladno will be followed by three more openings in the Moravia-Silesia region during the first two weeks of September, in Ostrava, Opava and Frýdek-Místek.

    Action says that they have „the lowest prices in over 1,600 stores across Europe”.

    With about 6,000 products on the shelves, Action offers a broad range of products at low prices – at least 1,500 products sold in Action stores cost less than CZK 25.

    The product range, with items from over 350 well-known brands and more than 70 private labels, consists of 14 categories: decoration, DIY, toys and entertainment, stationery and hobby, multimedia, household goods, garden and outdoor, laundry and cleaning, pet, sport, clothing and linen.

    Action announced its entry into the Czech market at the beginning of 2020 and the discounter’s expansion in the country will be rapid.

    Every store will employ approx. 15 employees.

    Alza.cz adds another unusual segment to the online store. From today, customers can also buy drinks through a partner with delivery to the address.

    Soon, customers will also find beer and non-alcoholic products such as mineral water, lemonade or energy drinks in the product range of alza.cz.

    Wine lovers can choose from almost 700 types of wines, champagne and sparkling wines from Bohemia, Moravia and abroad (France, Chile, Spain, New Zealand, etc.). There are a number of varieties, areas and wineries at different price levels.

    The company also listed almost 600 types of spirits – from premium rums to matured whiskeys. The sale of all alcoholic products is subject to strict age control on site, both on the web and when the goods are received.

    In June, sales decreased in real terms (at constant prices) by 2.0%, year‑on‑year. Sales in retail trade increased by 0.2%, month-on-month.

    Seasonally adjusted sales in retail trade, except of motor vehicles increased in real terms (at constant prices) by 0.2%, m-o-m, in June. Sales for sale of automotive fuel increased by 7.6%, while sales for sale of food decreased by 0.3% and sales for sale of non-food goods dropped by 0.7%.

    Sales in retail trade adjusted for calendar effects decreased by 2.0%, y-o-y. Sales for sale of automotive fuel decreased by 10.8% and sales for sale of food dropped by 3.8%, while sales for sale of non-food goods increased by 1.4%.

    There were two working days more in June 2020 compared to June 2019.

    Non-adjusted sales in retail trade stagnated, y-o-y. Decrease of sale of automotive fuel (by 8.4%) and food (by 3.3%) was compensated by growth of sale of non-food goods (by 4.7%).

    The highest sales growth was in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (by 27.8%)

    In specialised stores with non-food goods, sales increased for sale of other household equipment (by 9.9%), information and communication equipment (by 6.1%), cultural and recreation goods (by 4.3%), and dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods (by 2.3%).

    On the other hand, sales decreased in stores with clothing, footwear and leather goods (by 16.4%).

    Sales for sale of food decreased in specialised stores by 2.4% and in non-specialised stores with food, beverages or tobacco predominating they decreased by 3.4%.

    Sale of non-food goods significantly decreased due to coronavirus in Czechia

    Results for March 2020 were influenced by measures taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus because of which many stores with mostly non-food goods were closed for part of the month or their operation was limited.

    The most significant year-on-year sales decrease (drop by 64.9%) occurred in stores with clothing, footwear and leather goods and in stores with cultural and recreation goods (drop by 47.1%).

    Sales decreased also in retail sale in specialised stores with information and communication equipment (drop by 29.7%) and in retail sale of other household equipment in specialised stores (drop by 22.0%).

    Sales for sale of goods via mail order houses or via Internet increased (+20.8%). Growth of sales was reported also for the sale of dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods (+9.1%).

    The above mentioned overall growth of sales for food was entirely owing to retail sale in non-specialised stores with food, beverages or tobacco predominating (growth of sales by 5.2%).

    Sales in retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco in specialised stores decreased by 17.3%.
