    Wizz Air established the new base in Tirana

    Wizz Air established the new base in Tirana. The airline has already based the first aircraft Airbus A320 at Tirana International Airport.

    Wizz Air announced 15 new routes to eight countries from Tirana starting from July 2020, bringing the total to 25 destinations from Tirana International Airport.

    The two other aircraft are expected to arrive in two weeks’ time, the company announced.

    The 3 Airbus A320 aircraft will support the operations of fifteen new routes to:

    • Beauvais (Paris),
    • Charleroi (Brussels), 
    • Eindhoven
    • Mulhouse Euroairport, 
    • Karlsruhe/Baden-baden, 
    • Hamburg
    • Berlin Schönefeld, 
    • Frankfurt Hahn, 
    • Prague
    • Heraklion
    • Rhodes
    • Bari
    • Catania
    • Milan Malpensa
    • Torino

    There are over 800 thousand seats on sale to 25 destinations from Tirana in 2020.

    How Albanian labour market looked in 2019

    • Over the year 2019, according to Albanian Labour Force Survey estimates, labour force in Albania is 1.430 thousand persons.
    • Females account for 44.4 % of the labour force and males for 55.6 % of it.

    Employed are 1,266 thousand persons, from which females account for 44.5 % and males for 55.5 %. The number of unemployed is estimated in 165 thousand persons, of which 44.0 % are females and 56.0 % are males.

    The labour force participation rate for the population aged 15-64 years old is 69.6 %. For male population aged 15-64, the labour force participation rate is 16.0 percentage points higher than females. The employment rate for the population aged 15-64 years old is 61.2 %. Employment rate for females
    is 54.4 % and for males is 68.2 %. The gender gap in employment for this age-group is 13.8 percentage points.

    The services and agricultural sectors have the highest share of employed with respectively 43.5 % and 36.4 % of the total employment. According to the 2019 survey estimates, it results that 45.7 % of employed are paid employees, 32.3 % are self-employed (with employees or without employees) and 22.0 % are contributing family workers.

    Unemployment rate decreased

    The official unemployment rate, for the population 15 years old and over, is 11.5 % decreasing by 0.8 percentage points compared to 2018. For males, the unemployment rate is 0.2 percentage points higher than for females.

    Youth (15-24 years old) unemployment rate is 27.2 %, (27.8 % for males and 26.3 % for females).

    Compared to the previous year, youth unemployment rate has decreased by 1.1 percentage points.

    Over the year 2019, youth aged 15-29 years old neither in employment nor in education or training account for 28.9 % of the same age group population.

    The volume of freight loading/unloading in Albanian ports, in March 2020 is 254 thousand tonnes, 41.2 % less compared to March 2019, latest data provided by Albanian Institute of Statistics shows.

    In the first quarter of 2020, the volume of freight loading/unloading in ports is 1,0 million tonnes, decreasing by 9.8 % compared to the first quarter of 2019.

    The volume of freight transported by rail in March 2020 is 2.6 million / tonnes–km decreasing by 13.8 % compared to March 2019.

    In the first quarter of 2020, volume of freights transported by rail is 8.6 million tonnes-km, increasing by 5.6 % compared to the first quarter of 2019.

    In March 2020, the volume of freights transported by air is 155.6 tonnes, decreasing by 22.3 % compared to March 2019.

    In the first quarter of 2020, the volume of freights transported by air is 511.5 tonnes, decreasing by 9.5 % compared to the first quarter of 2019.

    The number of flights, in March 2020 is 922 marking an decreasing of 50.3 % compared to March 2019.

    The number of passengers traveling by sea line in March 2020 is 16,206 passengers. Compared to March 2019, this indicator decreased by 67.4 %.

    In the first quarter of 2020, 125,810 passengers travelled by sea, decreased 17.0 % compared to same period of 2019.

    In March 2020, passenger air transport occupies 82.4 % of the total transport.

    The number of passengers traveling by air line, in the first quarter of 2020, is 515,506 passengers, decreasing by 15.5 % compared to the first quarter of 2019.
